Phenylketonuria - Inheritance of PKU
The diagram below shows the possible children of a sufferer and a carrier of PKU. There is a 1 in 2
chance that a child will be a sufferer and a 1 in 2 chance that a child will be a carrier.
As the PKU carrier frequency is 1 in 50 in the general population there is a
probability of 1 in 100 that a known sufferer will have a child with PKU with a person in the general population.
